Lifeguards
 

 

Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue is accepting applications for the 2012 summer lifesaving season. Salary range from $9.25 to $11.00 per hour.

Applicants must:
• Pass pre-employment drug screening
• Participate in Pre-test
• Be 18 years of age or older
• Able to attend mandatory training, start date of May 17th
• A valid driver’s license
• Ability to swim 500 meters in 10 minutes, or less.
• Ability to run 1 mile in 8 minutes or less

The pre-test will be administered on the following dates:
April 28, 2012 (Saturday)
May 6, 2012 (Sunday)
Time:  0830 Hrs

Meeting location and time: South side of Crystal Pier, located near south end of WB.

Pre-test to obtain an interview will consist of the following:
½ mile ocean swim, followed by 1 mile soft sand run, then two rescues. One will be an active victim the other a passive victim.

Applicants will work approx. 48hr workweek.

Utility Maintenance Specialist
 

UTILITY MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST

 
                                                 Starting Salary $ 30,353 to $ 31,871
 
 
This position requires the ability to perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled work as a team member engaged in the construction, installation and repair of water and sewer lines. Work involves the operation of construction equipment in the installation, replacement and repair of water and sewer pipes. Also includes making taps to water and sewer mains, installing hydrants, meters, and valves, and making repairs to the water and sewer system. Employees are subject to on-call and call-back work.
Operates heavy equipment and tapping machine to make water and sewer taps and service connections. Lays water and sewer pipe; adjusts pipe to proper grade and depth; repairs and replaces sewer and water lines and related facilities. Operates sewer rodder, jet, and vacuum machines to unstop sewer lines. Operates backhoe, front end loader, dump trucks, jackhammers, tampers, pipe threading machines, tapping machines, trenchers, air compressors, and boring machine. Makes repairs to storm drainage system, asphalt, and other utility cuts.
 
Knowledge of municipal water and sewer service policies. Ability to read utility line maps and operation and service manuals.

Required skills, knowledge and abilities: High school diploma (or GED equivalent); experience in construction-related work (including distribution and collection systems); experience in the operation of heavy equipment; possession of valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina. 

Desired skills, knowledge and abilities: C-well, C-distribution or Collection II system operator certification from the State of North Carolina (or similar state recognition from another state)

Fleet Mechanic
 
FLEET MECHANIC
Starting Salary $31,871 to $33,464
 
Performs advanced journey level work as a skilled mechanic in the Town's garage. Conducts preventive maintenance and repairs on automotive, heavy construction equipment, landscaping equipment and Heavy Duty Vehicles.
Work includes the repair of gasoline and diesel engines, electric motors, brakes, electrical and hydraulic systems, transmissions, wheel alignment and tires, diagnosing malfunctions of vehicles and equipment and determining necessary repairs. Performs North Carolina Vehicle Safety and Emissions Inspections, automotive air conditioning repair and replacement, metal fabrication and repairs including welding and related tasks. Operates equipment such as analyzers, scanners, forklift, lift jacks, tire changers, pneumatic tools, battery chargers, cranes, air compressors, welding and cutting equipment and hand tools.

Graduation from high school supplemented by coursework in mechanical and/or electrical trade skills, and considerable experience in repairing automotive and power driven equipment or,  an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Special Requirement
Possession of a valid North Carolina Drivers License, must obtain NC Class “B” Commercial Driver's License. Possession of own hand tools.
